The prestigious Professional Golfers Association has its winter home in St. Lucie County, within the Port St. Lucie city limits, and operates three beautiful golf courses as well as a golf school right on the city�s border. Miles and miles of pristine ocean beaches are just six miles away. The St. Lucie River with its natural beauty and environment flows through the city.

Although the first plan for the area was filed in 1953, the real development of Port St. Lucie began in 1961 with its incorporation by the then-General Development Corporation. In 1970, the area had only 330 residents. With a population of 65,722 in 1993, Port St. Lucie may soon surpass that of West Palm Beach, the largest city in Palm Beach County. Attracted by warm weather, an easy lifestyle and affordable housing, retirees (who make up about one-third of its population) and young families alike have moved into Port St. Lucie. Now it is the largest city on the Treasure Coast. In land area, Port St. Lucie is Florida's third largest city, with 77 square miles.
