The tiny Jupiter Inlet Colony and an un-incorporated stretch of Palm Beach County occupy the island's southern end. The Jupiter Inlet Colony is home to just under 500 people, some of whom live there year-round. Pathways through the colony lead to the beach. From their ideal vantage point, residents can watch boaters heading out the Jupiter Inlet to the ocean for a day of sport fishing

Going north, past elegant high rise condominiums until the Martin County line, the elite town of Jupiter Island begins, occupying about 10 miles of the 17-mile-long island. Some of America's most wealthy individuals have winter homes there. For the most part, properties are available only in 1- and 2- acre parcels, achieving the low density that limits the island's population and contributes to the high real estate values.

Buffered by the Nature Conservancy's Blowing Rocks preserve at one end and the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge and St. Lucie Inlet State Preserve at the other, the ocean-to-intracoastal community provides the privacy and security that its residents seek.
