When it comes to parks, the Treasure Coast provides full-service ball parks, shuffleboard, racquetball, tennis courts, fishing holes for fresh and salt water fishing, numerous boat ramps to launch your personal craft for a day of fun on the water, or a river cruise at a local marina, bicycle paths that connect areas of the county, and scuba diving on offshore natural and artificial reefs.

The Savannas Recreation Area provides a look at fresh water marshes and an opportunity for good fishing, while Barley Barber Swamp, a protected hammock in western Martin County, opens a world of nature to visitors taking one of Florida Power & Light Co.'s popular tours.

The state-operated and historic Jonathan Dickinson State Park allows visitors a leisurely river cruise along the wild and scenic Loxahatchee River where alligators come right up to the boat, or a chance to paddle your own canoe. There's camping, hiking and fishing available on 10,328 acres.

Adjacent to Jonathan Dickinson Park is the Hobe Sound Nature Center and Wildlife Refuge where visitors can take walking tours of the area and learn about the flora and fauna that exist in this preserve. At the northern end of Jupiter Island, the state operates St. Lucie Inlet State Park, where boaters can come ashore onto a deserted peninsula beach away from the crowds of busy Martin County.

Another scenic cruise in your own craft is down the St. Lucie Canal to the St. Lucie Locks operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Just like the Panama Canal, boats are lifted from one side of the locks to the other as they use the St. Lucie Canal for cross-state transportation to the Gulf of Mexico through Lake Okeechobee. A popular stopping- off spot is the Indiantown Marina.

Local causeways are perfect spots for swimming, windsurfing, jet-skiing and picnicking. Once a year, the Sertoma Club sponsors hydroplane races, which take over the waters of the Indian River and the Stuart Causeway Park in offering some of the finest racing nationwide. The hydroplanes have been coming to Stuart for more than 30 years.
